Stainless steel bell decorated with vegvisir
The Vegvísir a so-called Galdrastafir, which comes from the Icelandic magic tradition, is a
Symbol found in its concrete representation in the Huld manuscript. It says: „
When that symbol is carried, the wearer shall neither in storm nor wind
get lost even when the path ahead is unknown”.
Since it is very unlikely that this sign existed at all in Viking times
was known, the commonly used name "Viking compass" per se misleading.
The Huld Manuscript was only published around 1860, well after the end of the Viking Age
(1066 AD) and is therefore more of a modern symbol.
since there is no evidence of a use of this sign before 1600.
Nonetheless, it is an integral part of Icelandic magic traditions and practices
also a significant influence; for other Icelandic charms.
The bell with the magic sign is made of high quality stainless steel.
