Irminsul
The Irminsul or Erminsul, the early medieval sanctuary of the Saxons, was destroyed by the Franks in 772 at the request of Charlemagne after the entries in the Franconian annals.
You Saxons saw the sky as a kind of vault symbolically supported by the Irminsul. The location of the Irminsul is the Externsteine, on the top of which it stood. It also symbolizes the world tree Iggdrasil with its 9 supporting branches of the worlds.
The Irminsul was made by hand.
