Der Erfolg der Wikinger, die eine ganze Zeitperiode prägte, war unter anderem auf Ihre Schiffbaukunst
zurück zu führen. Ihre einzigartigen Drachenboote waren so perfekt durchdacht, daß sie nicht nur extrem
schnell waren, sondern durch ihr Aussehen auch noch Furcht bei Ihren Feinden ausloßten.
 

Mit diesen, auch Hochseetauglichen Schiffen konnten sie über neue Seewege auch weit entfernte
fremde Länder bereisen. Da ihre Ankunft meist mit Gewalt und Plünderungen verbunden war, verbreiteten
die Seefahrer Angst und Schrecken in ganz Europa, in Teilen Nordafrikas, und sogar bis nach Amerika.
 

Durch die Kombination von Ruderkraft und großen auffallenden Segeln schafften es die schnellsten
Wikingerboote auf fast 40 Kilometer pro Stunde. Durch Einsatz von sogenannten Sonnensteinen waren
sie dabei sogar in der Lage, selbst bei starker Bewölkung oder in der Dämmerung noch den Sonnenstand
zu messen um sich daran zu orientieren.
 

Die wichtigsten Bautypen der Wikingerschiffe waren die als Kriegsschiffe genutzten Langschiffe und das
sogenannte Knorr, daß breiter und höher gebaut war und somit als Transportschiff für Waren diente.

Odin Lederkette

Odin, im Südgermanischen auch unter Wotan bekannt, ist der oberste der nordischen Götterwelt, weshalb er
auch Göttervater oder Allvater genannt wird. Gleichzeitig ist er auch noch Kriegs und Totengott. Des Weiteren
fungiert er auch noch als Gott der Dichtung, der Ekstase, sowie der Magie.
 

Der bekannteste seiner Söhne, ist der erstgeborene Thor ( Donar ). Seine Gemahlin ist die Göttin Frigg (Frigga )
die ihm die weiteren Söhne Balder, Hermod, Hödur und Bragi gebahr. Ein weiterer Sohn, den er von der Riesin
Grid hatte, war Vidar, der später zu Ragnarök seinen Tod durch den Wolf Fenrir rächen sollte.
 

Zusammen mit seinen Brüdern  Villi und Ve erschuf er das erste Menschenpaar Askr und Embla aus einem Stück
Holz, das am Meer angespült wurde. Zu seinen steten treuen Begleitern zählen die Raben Hugin und Munin
( Gedanke und Erinnerung ) die ihn stets mit allen Informationen aus seinem Reich auf dem Laufenden halten,
weshalb er auch noch den Namen Rabengott trägt.
 

Des Weiteren hatte er auch noch 2 Wölfe um sich die die Namen Geri und Freki ( der Gierige
und der Gefräßige ) tragen. Unerschrocken steht im auch noch sein Schlachtroß Sleipnir, das ein Geschenk
seines Blutsbruders Loki war, bei all seinen Kämpfen treu zur Seite. In seiner Heimat Asgard besitzt er zwei
Paläste, Walaskialf  sowie Gladsheim. In letzterem befindet sich auch die große Halle Valhall, wo er sich mit
seinen Kriegern , den Einherjer auf die letzte Schlacht zu Ragnarök vorbereitet.

Fenris leather chain
